I've just finished watching Deep Space Nine on Netflix, and I have to say it is a great series. I was never a fan of the religious aspect of some of the episodes (and especially how Sisko ends the series), but overall it is some great science fiction, even better than Next Generation (well, maybe). When I was 13 I even went to a Star Trek Convention in DC with Patrick Stewart as the guest speaker! So I'm obviously pro-Star Trek. Still there are some new Star Wars movies on the horizon and a few people kind of like those first three, so what is your opinion?

Oh and they sold a Hot Wheels Enterprise:

Forget just the science-fiction genre, I think Deep Space Nine is one of the best drama series ever made. The cast was so deep and talented.

It's tough to say. I feel like the difference between movie and tv series (yeah I know there are a couple movies of Stark Trek too- but Star Wars didn't have any legitimate tv series).

I'd say they both have their ups and downs. Pure action has always been better IMO in Star Wars, and the "spectacle" of the viewing. Story line, I'd say Star Trek if you consider the series as a whole and the depth of characters.

I'd say they are equally great.

Also, I prefer TNG the most.

I never really cared about Star Trek. As for Star Wars, I picked it up in that awkward period when no one was talking about the classic trilogy anymore, and there weren't talks, at least that I knew of, of a new trilogy, so those movies just blew my mind on so many levels, but then George Lucas dragged them into the mud and I don't think I care about Star Wars anymore either.

I grew up watching the original Trilogy and then the prequels came out when I was still young enough to fully enjoy them. I always hated Star Trek, though I saw the first of the remakes and I did enjoy it. And I do love Patrick Stewart. But it'll always be Star Wars for me.

In spite of its budget deficit, Babylon 5 > Deep Space Nine.

Star Wars are my favorite movies of all time. But I'm a huge sci-fi guy so I really enjoy Star Trek as well. My sister is the one who really introduced me to ST actually.

You should check out the remake of Battlestar Galactica too, it's phenomenal.

You know there is a hilarious DS9 when Thomas Riker sneaks on board and steals the Defiant. In the reveal to show he's not actually the real Commander Riker he peels off his fake sideburns. It is genuinely one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

And there is nothing better than this:

Depends what I want to watch. Star Wars is great entertainment. Star Trek is great and frequently fantastic sci-fi, with mature themes mirroring current society.

TNG and TOS are my favorites, but as an example of serialized storytelling, DS9 is the best. I could watch random episodes of the former all day, but DS9 you pretty much need to watch in order. That both makes for stronger continuous storylines, but almost forces you to watch it from the beginning.

I much prefer Star Trek because of the storytelling and larger amount of content available. As for my favorite series of Star Trek I prefer DS9 and TNG over voyager and TOS.

I had a long explanation but it got KINJA'd so I'll paraphrase...

To me its apples to oranges... Star Wars was only ever meant to be a fun story while Trek was meant from its conception to be an inspiration to humanity.
I have to admit, I'd have to say Star Wars is my favorite mainly due to nostalgia and it being largely responsible for me loving sci-fi. Hell, I literally waited 23 years to see Revenge of the Sith, how could it have not disappointed me? I accept that... That's not to say I don't like Trek, I've always really enjoyed it and appreciated everything I t was and wanted to be. Trek just never really had the same effect on me...

now you'll never not notice it.

Wil Wheaton said it was probably because he had a back injury and sitting down and getting back up again was painful after a few takes. This way was smoother.

I think it's also cause those tables and chairs look small and he's a tall dude, he'd probably knock his knees on the desk if he sat down the traditional way.

I really am not crazy about either one. The only thing from either that I liked was Enterprise (I know, I know, everyone hates that one, but as a non-trekkie without preconceived notions of how it should be, I liked it better than the previous 'Treks).

The issue I take with both series is how I feel like they're trying to cram something down my throat. In ST:TOS and TNG it was their odd faux-deep philosophy, and in all the rest (more-so in Star Wars ), it was their religions.

I'm a big sci-fi fan; in fact I rarely like TV that aren't sci-fi, but I just don't like Star Trek or Star Wars . Farscape , on the other hand, is my all-time favorite TV series, followed closely by Stargate Atlantis , Stargate SG-1 , and Firefly . Babylon 5 wasn't bad. Eureka was pretty good too. Why can't we have Eureka: The Next Generation ?
